Sale. If that isn’t a word you’re sick of seeing then I admire your strength. I hate pretty much everything about sale shopping. The red signs and the messy, crowded shop floors. Not to mention the crashing websites and ‘out of stocks’, which are the most heartbreaking aspects of them all. Naturally, considering all of the above, I don’t get excited about sales. But the dilemma is that I’m not particularly well-off, so as much as I hate it, a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do to get some new outfits in this day and age. It’s a mission and a half, both in store and online, but I do suck up my hatred and power through every new year to try and grab a few bargains. And the result of this powering through, my friends, is what I’m wearing in this post.
I actually spotted the dress version of this top in Zara months back, and almost bought it but something wasn’t quite right about it and I didn’t know how much I’d wear it. So when I caught sight of this going for a whopping £9.99 in the sale, and realised it was the top version, I was headed straight for the till. It’s not like anything else I’ve got in my wardrobe already, and I think it’s a really cool, flowing cut that will take me through to the spring, and probably even summer months, all the while being super versatile. I can’t wait to style it with skirts and dungarees, but I love it just in it’s simplest form here with a classic pair of jeans.
Speaking of the classic pair of jeans, they’re not exactly classic to me yet, as these are also a cheeky sale find. My go-to for jeans has always been Topshop, as it is for many of us. I’ve grown up and transitioned through the different cuts. Joni and Jamie were my first Topshop loves, then Mom came into my life and I don’t think I could ever go back to buying stretchy denim. These are the first Hayden jeans I’ve ever tried, and I instantly loved them. I did grab this pair off the sale rail, where they only had 30″ leg lengths left- where I would usually pick up a 32″- but they were half price so I gathered I could get over that 2″, and actually, I’ve become quite a fan of the cropped fit against ankle boots.
I also tried some straight leg jeans, which I’ve seen Sammi rock effortlessly for ages now, and I bloody loved them too. However I really needed that 32″ leg in those, which of course were out of stock (as everything seems to be, it’s January), so I think I’ll be ordering myself a pair online in the near future. I’m such a fan of proper denim jeans these days, and I really want to sort out my collection, and properly move on from the skinny-jean days and have a good style clear out, as I mentioned in my New Year’s post.
My hunt for these jeans was not quite as simple as it sounds though. I’ve been on my search for a good few weeks, trying to find the pair. I’ve recently tried on a couple of BDG pairs at Urban Outfitters, as I’ve heard SO much raving about them being the best on the High Street. They are pricier than my beloved Topshop, and I don’t think the sizing is quite what I’m used to as I had to size up, which is never going to put you in a good mood is it? So I didn’t buy any. But I will keep an open mind for them next time I am on the hunt, and maybe try them on again in a few weeks time, and not just after Christmas.
I couldn’t go on a hunt for jeans without taking a trip to Levi’s now could I? I don’t think I’ve ever actually owned a pair, except for a pair of denim shorts years ago, which seems a bit bizarre considering they’re such cult denim brand, and I bloody love a good pair of jeans. I tried on a few styles, and as great as the fit was on me, and as comfortable as they felt to wear, they just weren’t what I was looking for. I would love a good pair of Levi’s in my collection, but right now, they aren’t for me.
The final place I tried is what seems to be the ‘shop of the moment’, & Other Stories. They have such lovely quality pieces in there, and the jeans are no exception. I think I’ll be popping back at some point over the coming months to purchase my first pair from here. They are super thick, reigid denim, which I love right now, with that looser fit. Loose enough so that you can sit down and bend your legs without cutting off circulation, but fitted enough in the right places that you can tell your bum and waist actually exist. And that my friend, is harder to find than it sounds.
Please do let me know where you swear by for your jeans? Especially if you’ve had a bit of a denim revolution recently like I have. I would love to know and check out some more options.
