Stating the obvious, summer is here. We’ve had some beautiful weather recently, and I don’t know about you but it makes me feel so happy and motivated when the skies are blue and the sun is shining. I feel like anything is possible, and there is always a clearer reason to feel happy about wherever you are in your life. I’m trying to carry this through with me to those inevitable greyer days, when it is easy to feel sluggish again.
The question I keep asking myself is, what can I do to maximise this summer? How can I make the most of all the positive energy and happiness that comes with the sunny days, before it is taken away again? Working 9-5 makes it hard, combined with the endless instagram scrolling that makes you believe everyone else in the world is living glorious lives filled with constant holidays, sandy beaches and glowing skin. Obviously that is not the case in MOST situations.
We only see what people want us to see.
Nevertheless I do want to make sure I utilise the rest of the summer months, whether I end up travelling anywhere else sunny and beautiful like these shots from Barcelona, or whether it’s solely in the comforts of the UK. Manchester is my favourite city in the UK, it’s my home and I love it from the bottom of my heart. And honestly, when the sun comes out, EVERYBODY makes the most of it here, so it’s really a great place to be for summer. But I am desperate to visit a few other new UK towns and cities this summer, as we have some bladdy’ beautiful places on this old Isle.
Top of my list is Brighton. The beaches, the weather, the quirkiness, I’m just desperado to visit it and I will do it this year.. I swear. Travelling, whether it may be abroad or in the UK, for 1 night or for a year, I think is so so sooo important. It brings out the same happiness that the sunshine does for me. There is something so freeing about travel and exploring, and summer is the key time to capture that.
So, as hard as it can be tackling the pressures that summer and social media brings, I’m keeping in mind that Instagram only shows the best of the best. My summer is just that, my summer. No one else’s, and there is no right or wrong way to do it. Whether you have a 9-5 like me, or not, it is still possible to have a crackin’ time. Don’t let anyone else, or their feed, let you think otherwise. Get out there, book some getaways (near or far) and get that free summer feeling. Let me know your plans, and I’ll tell you how mine’s gone in September…
K, Bye x
